The Mathematical Superiority of Step-Up SIP
Standard SIP calculations assume you invest the exact same monthly contribution throughout a 15-20 year career. However, real-world salaries typically expand by 8-12% each year. By toggling a 10% Annual Step-Up, an investor allocating ₹10,000/month accumulates over ₹2.1 Crore across 15 years at 12% CAGR, compared to only ~₹50 Lakhs in a static SIP — quadrupling the terminal corpus with modest incremental contributions.

Frequently Asked Questions: ₹5,000 Monthly SIP Calculator
How much will ₹5,000 monthly SIP grow to in 15 years?
At an expected 12% annual return, investing ₹5,000 per month for 15 years (total investment ₹9 Lakhs) grows to approximately ₹25,22,880.
The maths behind the sip investment calculator
So you can check the result rather than take it on trust.
The formula
FV = P × [((1 + i)ⁿ − 1) ÷ i] × (1 + i)
- P — monthly instalment
- i — expected return per month = annual return ÷ 12 ÷ 100
- n — number of instalments
- The trailing × (1 + i) assumes the instalment is invested at the start of the month
Worked example
₹10,000 per month for 10 years at an assumed 12% annual return.
- i
- 12 ÷ 12 ÷ 100 = 0.01
- n
- 120
- Invested
- 10,000 × 120 = 12,00,000
Projected value ₹23,23,391 — ₹11,23,391 of it growth.
Growth does not overtake contributions until around year 11 at 12%. Before that, most of your balance is simply money you put in — which is why SIP results in years 1–5 feel disappointing and why stopping then is the expensive mistake.
Where this calculation usually goes wrong
Treating the projected return as a promise
12% is a planning assumption, not an outcome. Equity returns arrive unevenly; a 12% average can contain a −25% year. Model 8% and 15% as well and check the plan survives the low case.
Ignoring the difference between SIP and lump sum
The same ₹12,00,000 invested as a lump sum on day one at 12% becomes ₹37,27,018 over 10 years, versus ₹23,23,391 via SIP. SIP is smaller because the average rupee is invested for about half the period — SIP buys discipline and averaging, not higher returns.
